Johannesburg South is no place for kids to grow up

As I am sitting on Verona Street, yes, it is located in the once suburb, Johannesburg South. With the history that will never be erased in the South African entertainment industry; where they shot and killed a reggae legend, Lucky Dube.

Today, I say poor Rosettenville, flooded with dirty drug dealers, whom, mostly are Foreign nationals. Streets plastered with dirty prostitutes, with no life and the thought of a deadly disease showers your cleverness, and you start to think, "Sex and money are best life pleasures..." – Prostitutes will always be around like always Coca-Cola.

As you walk down, deep, Lang Street (same street they shot Dube), you can see and feel the once presence of a true white area that has turned to a foreign dumping bin.

Just when you enter Verona Street from Main Street, the first traffic lights you approach, you find a BP Garage on your left -hand side. One highlight of this corner, is a poor white man, with one leg supported by crunches; begging for money. His arm is swollen by his old crunches and he looks disgusting and pale, wiping his mouth dripping saliva.

Donald’s number one obsessed fan - Twitter

IS SHE OBSESSED?

She’s young, vulnerable and obviously seeking attention from her beloved celebrity, Donald Moatshe.

Tweeting a well-known public figure is something we all do, but again the level of doing it will shade something else. Should I say there’s a girl beginning to be or already obsessed with Donald? The girl who goes by the Twitter handle @didlos_ has been tweeting MR I Deserve with a hope to get a follow back, which mostly will lead to Direct Messages (DM).

She took it to another level by using PicMix below to combine herself and the adored celebrity. Should Donald ignore this girl? If so, they may feel exceedingly alone and further their obsession to the next level. Psychologists advise that anyone who thinks they exhibit any signs of obsession should seek help. (Tjo! This girl has Naomi (Rhythm City) tendencies, she even made sure that their shades look alike.)

How Danny Mongo closed doors for Take Note Jazz Band

Below is a letter that has been doing some rounds online and it does not in anyhow represent GoXtra News.

This is the letter I am writing to Newspaper editors about how Danny Mongo has ensured Take Note doesn’t participate in Buyel’ekhaya Music Festival:

I am exasperated by the level of bastardization and utter degrading of artists who work tirelessly to reach levels of excellence within the arts fraternity in the Eastern Cape. I am writing this not as a member of the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Music Association, nor a music executive, but as an arts activist and a human being who witnesses the pain and shame inflicted by people who are self-proclaimed figures of omnipotence within the music industry. Artists’ careers and dreams are usually stillborn or murdered in their infancy by among others, music promoters whom the industry has given statuses of indomitability.

Poetry Sundays: Take me as I am

Take me as I am
Take me as I am
Take me as I am in this world
Take me as I am in your arms and surround my wounded soul
Take me as I am in your refuge as a lost orphan seeking to be made whole
Take me as I am for I have been labelled and made to fulfill no useful role
Take me as I am in your presence as the one who came to you isolated and in need
Take me as I am and keep me away from the hand of wickedness and selfless greed
Take me as I am as if I were the last human on Earth
Take me as I am as if I’m a newly bred toddler who cannot rely on his own protection for his world is surrounded by un-understood formations, gigantic figures of un-identified faces and objects waiting to destroy me as if I was an enemy they had been waiting to see

Take me as I am and make your shoulder my pillar of strength
Your heart my blanket of warmth and your smile my fresh drink of water on a summers day
Take me as I am and label me “I” for I cannot be you
I cannot be who you expect me to be for I abide with my own destiny
Take me as I am as I have come to you for safety

Take me as I am for I’m seen as a lost fish wondering the wealthy trenches of land seeking for water yet I cannot identify I’m being scattered on the realms of a desert

Toya Delazy to perform at the Old Mutual Summer Sunset Concerts

Old Mutual has chosen to highlight some of the incredible eclectic musical talent that this country has produced.  Four of the concerts are devoted to these exciting performers. They are; Toya Delazy with Lindiwe Suttle (January 27), Sipho Hotstix Mabuse (February 17), Ringo Madlingozi (March 17) and MiCasa with Natasha Meister (March 31).  Make sure you enjoy this showcase of up and coming and seasoned musicians with their unique South African sound.

Toya Delazy and Lindiwe Suttle will be the hot young artists on January 27.  Toya Delazy has made a real impact on South African Top 40 Radio and this trained jazz pianist is influenced by many genres: from Hip Hop and Electro to Alternative and Pop.  Opening the afternoon will be Lindiwe Suttle, fresh off the SA music festival stages where she launched her debut album Kamikaze Art, with her music described as organic electronic soul.

Hello to everyone and Compliments of the New Season

Intern Opportunities -

It's been a quiet a busy year and yes I know most of our loyal readers have been happy  about our wonderful content that graced bigger media houses such as, Vuzu TV, Drum Magazine and Sunday Sun.

As much as I try my best to keep the publication running, the pain and suffer is also among the things that make me keep it afloat. I am in need of writers who are willing to contribute to this platform and make it their home.

I had last year lost two writers who couldn’t participate anymore because of their commitments such as, full time work and other related reasons.

As the founding owner and editor of the publication and a caring person to keep people informed, I have a huge vision for the online publication that has been viewed by at least more than 100 countries. I hope it will be the most beneficial to those who become part of it.

SABC 1 goes FO SHO on Vulgar language!

Nationally - Almost fifteen minutes before the end of the Hip Hop show on SABC 1 tonight, they decided to put an age restriction (16L). The fact that from the beginning there was no age restriction I thought they had edited the content.

Hip Hop music is very expressive and the language is very strong, which means the channel should have known that before and considered all measures. I am of the opinion that they didn’t even bother to watch or review the show before airing. Who’s accountable for such carelessness? Only the economic channel can answer that.

What impression does this give about Hip Hop to the concerned viewer? How can such be allowed to be seen by millions of viewers nationally? Why was age restriction visible 15 minutes before the end?
