After the SABC sacked Nada Wotshela uMhlobo Wenene FM finally scoops AWARDS!

Nonala Tose and Amaza Ntshanga.

Nominated 8 times but only managed to scoop 2 out of 8 awards and the most votes voted by listeners!

For uMhlobo Wenene FM to receive the award for most votes at the MTN Radio Awards at the weekend it proved great that they do have the power and encouragement over their listeners.  The Xhosa broadcasting radio station won against Ligwalagwala FM, Motsweding FM, Radio Tygerberg and Ukhozi FM.

The station also Day Show of the year – SJL Show presented by Amaza Ntshanga and Nonala Tose (a great combination that gels well together). Indeed it was time for Amaza to win an award because he’s been really making noise at the station for a considerable number of years from KCI’S show to SJL Radio which is fun, lively and engaging presentation style.

Nonala Tose was also listed at the MTN Radio Awards Bright Stars Club. Also would like to congratulate Mafa Bavuma for being nominated for the News and Actuality Presenter though it was scooped by Ashraf Garda - SA FM.

Now let’s get to the real deal – The station greatly needs young blood because hiring old-time radio presenter like Putco Mafani does not help anyhow, yes to their listeners it might be working in terms of RAMS but the judging panel does not look at Putco’s popularity but the content, skills, delivery of the show(s) etc.

I fully comprehend the fact that the station is catering for a very sensitive type of listeners, but we honestly need change like hiring young-fresh blood and nurture young people to help draw young stars to the station with their fresh ideas to generate content. The station needs to consider the importance of content, we must fully understand that radio is not about who’s who’s voice but content and the skills to deliver it. I have heard terrible voices on radio, yet they won awards.

We need to be real and as soon as that happens the station will conquer, how can they enter Imihlinzo for the MTN Radio Awards? Is there a category for best comedy breakfast show? NO! “Imihlinzo” is a joke that must not be submitted for the awards unless it is necessary to do so or that particular category is voted by listeners, then I assure you’ll win.

I would also like to send my felicitations to the management and I think the SABC did a very good job by sacking Nada Wotshela (From the station) former station manager after the mess she did at the station making changes that did not make sense at all. Nada thought the station was her bedroom and she can change and impose changes with a slavery-mentality.

Afternoon Drive presenter was not nominated at all... Is KCI still relevant though?

Here are some of the categories uMhlobo Wenene was nominated and lost!
