GoXtra Sport: Rain, Wickets and Runs-hit GABBA

Following South Africa’s dominance on day one of the first of 3 Test matches, the eagerly awaited day two, was completely washed out by rain on Saturday for the first time. Despite the rain, today [Sunday] the Mother Nature cleared and the battle lived up to expectations.

Jacques Kallis and a dependable Hashim Amla resumes the proceedings for the Proteas and they both went on to crack their milestones, with Amla going for 104 and Kallis 147. It was Amla’s 17 Test Century and for the king Kallis, it was his 44-only second to the “little master” Sachin Tendulkar in the order. South Africa was eventually all out for an imposing 450 [J P Duminy didn’t bat after his injury and he has been ruled out of action for 6 months]

At a close of play the Host struggled to 111 for 3, with Morne Morkel picking up 2 wickets, well supported by world number one bowler Dale Steyn who sets the ball rolling with the wicket of dangerous David Warner in the 5th over. Australia still trail South Africa’s total of 339 runs with only 7 wickets in hand.

South Africa will in no doubts need to make an early in-rods to the wicked Ausses line up tomorrow, with veteran Ricky Ponting dismissed, South Africa needs 2 more wickets to open up their inexperience low order and hopefully bundled them out cheaply and enforce a follow on-that the most likely way for us to win this match, following day 2 action-less day. Michael Clack and Michael Hussey are holding the key for Australia…

Dean Elgar has been called up to replace J P Duminy, with Faf du Plessis expected to start in the next match. The action is again scheduled to start early tomorrow to try and cover up for the lost of day two, action should kick off at 01:15am SA time…
