Didier Drogba solitary strike was good enough to hand
Chelsea an ugly surprising win over the reigning champions-Barcelona at
Stamford Bridge. While in Munich-the home team also showed character and
courage as they overpowered the star studded Real Madrid-2-1, with goals form
Mario Gomez and Frank Ribery enough to separate the teams-German international,
Mesuit Ozil got an all important away goal for Jose Mourinho’s man-that can
prove decisive in the return leg in Madrid. But have Chelsea and Bayern done enough
to book their spot in the final?
One can say Real and Barca played these clashes with their
EL-Classico in mind over the weekend, which Barcelona will host in Camp Nou-
before they take on Chelsea on Tuesday, next week.
This is a make or break week for Pep boys- if they lose or even draw against Madrid on the weekend-they might as well kiss the title hope goodbye, and next it Chelsea who are a taking a 1 goal advantage to them- so Barcelona’s season depends on their next two games at Nou Camp.

But with the likes of Lionel Messi, Febregas, Iniesta, Xavi and company, anything is possible-in the next 5 days Barca’s season can start or end…
It different story for Real Madrid, they need 2 of 3
possible results against Barcelona-a win or draw is suitable for them, that
gives Mourinho’s man an upper hand. And on Wednesday against Munich-with an
away goal, trailing by two goals to one- one can only see a one way traffic at
Santiago Bernabeu-So can Chelsea and Bayern defend their slender leads
successfully in Spain? And come back alive from Nou Camp and Bernabeu
respectively? One thing for sure by end of Wednesday-we will know the answer.
They have both been there before and done it successfully; they will have to
draw much courage on those stats if they need to repeat the same feet again.
Without a doubt history is against the Spaniards in this
one. Bayern Munich has knocked out Real 3 times in 4 clashes- and Barcelona are
currently faced with history that there is no club that has successfully
defended the UEFA title, and there are one goal down going to their home leg
tie with Chelsea. Once Germany great Franz Beckenbauer said about Real- Bayern
clash “It’s two of great clubs with a lot of pride at stake and huge desire to
win titles”-yes it’s true! With all being said and done-record against each
other-some relying on their strong home advantage, the truth after all is that it
will only take two 90 minutes on Tuesday and Wednesday night to separate the
boys from the men. Its promises to be a fascinating two nights of football-that
one thing for sure, two will prevail and two will perish… then who? Let’s leave
it there for now.
