SAFA: Please get your act together- we cannot afford a nation of losers

South African national football teams need a very serious intervention by the Almighty. Once again the under 23 team failed to proceed to the next round on their CAF under 23 campaign in Morocco. This happens just after few months Bafana Bafana failed to qualify for the African cup of nation to be hosted by Gabon and Equatorial Guinea. Speaking at the press conference after arriving in the country baby Bafana coach Shakes Mashaba said his boys gave their best they were just unfortunate as they failed to score. He also pointed out lack of match fitness as the cause of poor results.

Baby Bafana lost 2-0 to Egypt. Before that game they drew with Ivory Coast and Gabon. They had to win against the Pharaoh boys to advance to the next stage. This failure is a big a blow to the nation as it means they won’t be in the Olympics games for the under 23 team. This also mean currently Mashaba has nothing much to do till 2016 which we are definitely not sure whether he will be still be in the favorable books of the South African football Association. We all know coaches in South Africa are changed like socks. So far Safa has promised to keep him.

Mashaba has mentioned a very critical point when he said SAFA and Premier Soccer league should begin to work together. He is definitely right. These bodies need to come together and uplift the standard of football in this country. PSL should assist on ensuring players who can take this baby Bafana to greater heights are available. The absence of Andile Jali and Thulani Serero has been highly questioned. It is believed that the absent of these players have resulted in the poor performance by our future Bafana boys.

Let’s face the truth as the nation we have been participating in different tournaments with players whom we value and trust but still we performed poorer. It was worse when we got knocked out in the early stages of the world cup. As if that was enough we failed to qualify for the Afcon. After those games we were singing the “Eish, we should have”, but those has been our songs since 1996 where we won the African Cup of nations.

SAFA must spend time and come up with the remedy and stop killing our football. It has turned to be the meaning of real death to our soccer. We can’t sit back and mourn our loss for the baby Bafana but the association needs to examine itself and fix what is wrong in our national football. I still have faith in our national young team. PSL need to assist as well in releasing players for the national duty. SAFA should make sure there is enough time for the preparations so that the coach is able to select a winning team by selecting correct players.
