Mafikizolo headline 2014 Lake of Stars Arts Festival, Lake Malawi!

South African duo, Mafikizolo, will headline this year’s Lake of Stars Arts Festival which returns to Sunbird Nkopola Lodge on Lake Malawi from 26 to 28 September 2014.

Having just returned from performing at the Black Entertainment Television (BET) Awards in Los Angeles, 2014 has been a massive year for Mafikizolo. After sweeping the South African Music Awards earlier this year, they took home Best Song of the Year and Best Group at the 2014 MTV Africa Music Awards.

Fellow South Africa acts John Wizards and Christian Tiger School will make the trip from Cape Town, bringing their electronic sounds to Lake Malawi. In 2014 John Wizards played UK festivals including Glastonbury and Field Day, while Christian Tiger School have just returned from performing at Amsterdam’s Appelsap and South Africa’s Oppikoppi festivals.

Other international artists on the lineup include Reason (SA), Zone Fam (Zambia), DJ Jack Rooster (Kenya), Raj El Rey (Kenya), Tariro neGitare (Zimbabwe), Selmor Mtukudzi (Zimbabwe), Pearl Natasha (Zimbabwe), Band Tower (Zimbabwe), Cable Street Collective (UK) and Stanley Odd (UK). They will perform alongside an amazing line up of Malawi’s biggest artists including Peter Mawanga, Sally Nyundo, Mafilika, Skeffa Chimoto, Agorosso and Piksy.

Festival director Will Jameson says, “We’re thrilled to have been able to secure one of Africa’s biggest acts right now, Mafikizolo, to headline this year’s festival. Furthermore, with the support of Creative Scotland, the festival will build on the connections between Scotland and Malawi by hosting 12 creatives from Scotland including poet Michael Pedersen, writer Martin MacInnes, filmmaker Matt Hulse, hip-hop act Stanley Odd and Knockengorroch festival director Katch Holmes.”

“Festival-goers can expect an intimate festival set in an unbelievable location on the palm-fringed shores of Lake Malawi where you can enjoy an eclectic programme of music, comedy, visual arts and poetry and family activities.”“I would like to thank our 2014 supporters and partners that include DHL Express, TNM, Royal Norwegian Embassy in Lilongwe, Creative Scotland, Intercape, Live Nation, Proflight Zambia, Kenya Airways and Malawian Airways,” says Will.
