Booming International Interest In South African Film FOUR CORNERS!

Four Corners continues to raise strong interest internationally, with a request received yesterday to feature the film for its US Premiere at the Seattle Film Festival as part of that festival's mission to 'discover extraordinary films from around the world.

The film's outstanding music track, composed by Marcus Wormstorm and featuring a range of South African musicians from Rattex and Cream to Khuli Chana Hemelbesem, Felix laBand and others is tipped to give the film a strong competition footing in this renowned West Coast Indie music centre.

Unexpectedly,the hard hitting and gritty Four Corners, has also been invited to play in competition at Giffoni, the largest 'children's film Festival in the world,based in Giffoni near Naples in South Italy, and boasting over 100 000 attendees last year. Though the Cape Flats subject matter was viewed as very'hard hitting ' by the Festival's selection panel, Four Corners was praised for its stong and convincing youth ensemble cast.

The cast is led by 13 year old Jezriel Skei who plays the lead role in the film,supported by several other youth performers, the youngest of whom, Israel Lever, was just 7 at the time the film was shot. The youth ensemble were selected from extensive street castings at chess clubs, schools and community centres across the Flats as well as from conventional castings in Cape Town and Johannesburg. Negotiations are currently under way for Four Corners to play in festivals in Cannes, Montreal, Sidney and Rio.

Meanwhile Four Corners continues to play at cinemas across the country. After erroneously placing Four Corners at the higher priced Nu Metro Scene cinema in its opening weekend Nu Metro shifted the film to a larger V&A cinema this week. ' A lot of fans who rushed to the opening weekend were shocked to discover they had to pay R85 to view Four Corners at the main Cape Town cinema. The film's producers apologised to disappointed fans who were turned away, as the limited seat site was heavily sold out in its first week, disappointing many opening weekend fans. The producers can now confirm that the film is playing for this week only at a larger cinema at the V&A.
