SA’s first music streaming service is now even better!
SA’s first music streaming service is now even better!
In keeping with its innovative and first to market ethos, simfy
africa has responded to the specific needs of the South African market and has
released a set of completely updated mobile applications. Users can now enjoy a faster, more intelligent search, better
graphics, faster loading of streaming tracks and more control over data usage. All of which gives the user better access to
new releases, classic albums and customised playlists on their Android, iOS and
Blackberry smartphones.
“The all
new apps are a giant step forward, featuring fresh design and improved usability and stability as
they were re-written from scratch”, comments Davin Mole, CEO. “Having listened to a lot of feedback, we set
out to give our users the very best possible service. The new apps also offer features previously
available only via the web and desktop interfaces, a step we feel is critical
in Africa with the bias towards mobile as the access method of choice”.
In contrast to the iOS and Android apps, which were
developed in Europe, the new BlackBerry app was developed in South Africa by
Prezence. “It was a critical decision to
develop the BB app locally”, says Mole.
“We have a unique domination in the South African smartphone market by
BB users and so this app was developed for the specific challenges of our environment
– chief amongst them signal quality and the high cost of data. The new BB app feels like a high-powered
smartphone app, and offers ‘touch and type’ recognition”.
Users now have easier access to their
own music choices as well as a vastly improved discovery offering, which now
includes discovery by genre and direct access to weekly charts. To help users further, simfy africa offers 20
- 30 new curated playlists per week. These are put together by a local
inhouse music team who follow SA trends and preferences closely.
simfy africa soft launched in August
2012 to great acclaim from the public and the media. Since launch, users have listened to many
millions of tracks between them and have created over 75 000
playlists. The service launched more officially
last week, using an innovative silent marketing campaign.
In addition, the company has
announced an exclusive partnership with Select Music, which will see their
artists streaming only on the simfy africa service. Top SA artists such as Kurt Darren, Adam Tas,
Nicholis Louw, Romanz, Snotkop and others will take prominence on this proudly
South African service. “We offer all types of music, as you would expect with a
repertoire of twenty million tracks”, comments Mole. “But South African music is a key focus for
us and we are working constantly to ensure that we offer the best variety
possible”.
