16 Days of Activism: Mathawe Matsapola thinks out loud!

Mathawe Matsapola - Entertainment Editor for Sunday Sun & Daily Sun

Matsapola has an informed opinion about how women are treated compared to men.

I have heard this phrase so many times that ‘someone has sold their soul’ for something. What does it really mean? Is it when you do something that goes against your principles and morals? If the answer is yes, why do people then continue to sell their souls for something that will not fulfill them?

I have also heard several people saying they did not have a choice. I am not trying to be judgmental, but where there’s a will, there’s a way. A lot of times corporate women are accused of selling their souls for a job or position, while female musicians and actors are also accused of sleeping with so and so to get their big breaks or gigs. This phrase is often used and associated with women. And this made me wonder that if there is such a thing as selling your soul or sleeping your way to the top, women cannot be the only ones. To me this undermines women, it says they do not have brains- or their way to success is through their bodies.
