Ahe ngwanamhani, the one and only 'Streetqueen' ends the Mama Said 2012 season with two fabulous sisters!
Our younger sister for the occasion is Nothende who grew from a backing vocalist into an established soloist; her signature fresh blend of urban soul enriched with great smooth melodies and catchy lyrics makes her stand out amongst her peers. November’s big sister is powerhouse Gloria Bosman, one of South Africa’s most prominent jazz vocalists who equally sings classic, blues, opera, Afropop, gospel, Zonke Bonke and has worked with the world’s greats for decades.
The Mama Said Sessions are a mixed masala brewed by Ntsiki Mazwai; they provide a soulful, funky and a safe environment where young artists can showcase their talent and leading artists share their knowledge.
Another ingredient of the Streetqueen’s special brew is the open mic session where all can strut their stuff backed by the live house band while the DJ is on duty to liven things up.
We are calling for fresh, homegrown talent, musicians, poets, writers, visual artists, film makers, dancers, actors, comedians and anyone who would like to be inspired on a Sunday afternoon by what Mama Said to join us.
Mama Said has hosted the likes of Dorothy Masuka, Thandiswa Mazwai, Kabomo, Lilian Dube, Ringo Madlingozi, Nomsa Manaka, JahSeed, Sibongile Khumalo, Pops Mohammed, Wanda Baloyi, Ntando, Letta Mbulu, Brickz and Abigail Kubheka in the previous editions. If you have missed them, make sure to diarise every last Sunday of the month in 2013.
