MAMA SAID SESSIONS hosted by Ntsiki ‘Streetqueen’ Mazwai

Joburg Promusica announces the October Mama Said Session at the Basement Theatre on Sunday 28 October 2012

Tjovitjo, look left, look right, check coast. Namanje (even now) the Street Queen has two plates on special: Makoya Kofifi swing-jazz and Kleva kasi Kwaito.

SA’s music industry’s favourite bad boy Brickz, winner of numerous awards and considered the artist in charge of resurrecting Kwaito, is our bhuti (brother) for the occasion. The ever-elegant Mom ’Abigail Kubeka, singer, songwriter, musical arranger, actress and bearer of an immense cultural legacy is this Sunday’s big sister.

The Mama Said Sessions are a mixed masala brewed by Ntsiki Mazwai; they provide a soulful, funky and safe environment where young artists can showcase their talent and leading artists share their knowledge.

Another ingredient of the Streetqueen’s special brew is the open mic session where all can strut their stuff backed by the live house band while the DJ is on duty to liven things up.

We are calling on fresh, home-grown talent, musicians, poets, writers, visual artists, film makers, dancers, actors, comedians and anyone who would like to be inspired on a Sunday afternoon by what Mama Said to join us …..
Mama Said has hosted the likes of Dorothy Masuka, Thandiswa Mazwai, Kabomo, Lilian Dube, Ringo Madlingozi, Nomsa Manaka, JahSeed, Sibongile Khumalo, Pops Mohammed, Wanda Baloyi, Ntando and Letta Mbulu in the previous editions. If you have missed them, make sure to diarise every last Sunday of the month and you’ll soon be a Mama-aficionado. Guaranteed.
Date: Sunday 28 October 12 - 15h00 (doors open 14h30)
(and every last Sunday of the month)
Venue: Joburg Promusica Basement Theatre 100 Christiaan De Wet Drive, Florida Park, Roodepoort.
