MAMA SAID SESSIONS: Sibongile Khumalo et al – how to survive in the music industry

Sibongile Khumalo
Hosted by Ntsiki ‘streetqueen’ Mazwai

Joburg Promusica announces the July Mama Said Session at the Basement Theatre on Sunday 29 July 2012.

Mama said: ‘If you can talk, you can sing’ and so the ‘Streetqueen’ turns her spotlight on the splendor of song this month.

None other than Sibongile Khumalo, South Africa’s first lady of song, will be our ‘older sister’ for the afternoon while afro-soul songbird Wanda Baloyi is our ‘younger sister’. Both will give guidance on how to survive in the music industry, will go in conversation with the audience and, above all, inspire and motivate the upcoming artistic generation.

The Mama Said Sessions are a mixed masala brewed by Ntsiki Mazwai; they provide a soulful, funky and a safe environment where young artists can showcase their talent and leading artists share their knowledge.

Another ingredient of the Streetqueen’s special brew is the open mic session where all can strut their stuff backed by the live house band while the DJ is on duty to liven things up.

We are calling for fresh, homegrown talent, musicians, poets, writers, visual artists, film makers, dancers, actors, comedians and anyone who would like to be inspired on a Sunday afternoon by what Mama Said to join us...

Mama Said has hosted the likes of Dorothy Masuka, Thandiswa Mazwai, Lilian Dube, Nomsa Manaka and Renate Stuurman in the previous editions. If you have missed them, make sure to diarise every last Sunday of the month and you’ll soon be a Mama-aficionado. Guaranteed.
