THE VAGINA MONOLOGUES (performance) the award-winning play
is based on V-Day Founder/playwright Eve Ensler's interviews with more than 200
women. With humor and grace the piece celebrates women’s sexuality and
strength. Through this play and the liberation of this one word, countless
women throughout the world have taken control of their bodies and their lives.
For more than twelve years, The Vagina Monologues has given voice to experiences
and feelings not previously exposed in public. They also collect proceeds for
women organisations dealing with violence and sexual abuse.
It is collection of monologues that are about women
celebrating and discovering themselves. We live in a society where the vagina
is a private and hidden secret and yet it is part of us. The Vagina Monologues
gives voice to some of the issues that affect women (and their vaginas).
For the 1st time in Soweto, Vagina Monologues will be on at
Ozone in Moletsane on Saturday 12 May 2012 at 5:30pm tickets are sold at R150
or R100 and donation(s) of women sanitary products are highly welcomed - all
proceeds will go to charities.
The cast is a group
of ordinary beautiful women. Some have studied drama and some haven’t - the
result is an authentic mix of genuine sisterhood.
Don’t miss to catch the production at the Wale Festival held
on Thursday, May 10 at 6pm. And Friday, May 11 at 6pm we’ll be at Carfax in
Newtown, Johannesburg.
