Bid-vest Wits
striker Ryan Chapman is on top of the Cape Town table mountain and everyone can
see him. Chapman has rise beyond
expectation and he continues to shine in Wits colours. He lured attention when
he broke the bones of the Ghost (Orlando Pirates) two weeks back. As if that
was enough he punishes Santos when he scored during the Telkom knockout last Saturday.
Chapman is also
expected to be on the list of players who will be contesting for the goal
scorer of the season. Judging from the previous games he has what it takes to
challenge the likes of Katlego Mphela if
possible teach them how make a ball and a net to be friends. Talking to SABC
Soccer Zone on Monday he said it’s still early to think about the award for the
leading goal scorer. He said he want to take each game as it comes.
The problem about
our South African players is discipline which usually shift focus from these
talented young star. Chapman is one player who has not shown any signs of ill
discipline and if he keeps like this he’s got the brighter future ahead. He’s
only 24 years old and there’s no doubt if he keeps working hard one day he will
form part of the national team. He is
about to make Rodger De Sa the happiest
coach in South African football at this stage should they win the Telkom
Knockout final when they Host Orlando Pirates at Moses Mabhida on the 10th
December 2011.
In the beginning
of the season we predicted that Josta Dladla was going to shine for Kaizer
Chiefs but his form has dropped. Some sports journalists are pointing Vladimir Vermezovich
as the one who is not giving him enough chance. On Chapman case game time is
what he gets in every game. It’s up to him how he uses the opportunity. Chapman
has 6 goals in the league together with Diyo Sibisi.
Both of these
players have the point to prove themselves particularly Chapman who has raised
expectations from his team and supporters. His finishing before the polls is
just magnificent. He knows where to position himself so that he can get crosses
from the wings. Hopefully our national coach Pitso Mosimane might give him a
chance in the national team to come and compete with the so called best striker
in South Africa. Of course Mphela is good but if he’s the best in South Africa
that is questionable.
On Saturday Wits
will be hosting Golden Arrows at Bidvest stadium during the afternoon. The men of
the moment, the men of the month who could be the hero of the Wits University
on the 10th, Ryan Chapman will be taking on the wounded Golden Arrows that were
eliminated on the Telkom knockout by Orlando Pirates. Surely if Arrows defence
did not fix the silly mistakes at the back, well, Chapman will chew them alive.
