UJ clarifies matter of R1.4 million NSFAS student allowance claim

JOHANNESBURG: On Thursday the University of Johannesburg (UJ) dismissed claims that R1.4 million was deposited into a student's account.

In a statement released on their Facebook page the University said that it has noted with concern a claim on social media stating that the University has made a once-off deposit NSFAS living allowance amounting to R1.4 million into a student’s personal account.

"Unfortunately, the social media posting (that include a fraudulent screenshot of a Financial Statement) creates the impression of irresponsible behaviour by the University’s Student Finance personnel," reads the statement.

Setting the record straight, the University said it allocated an amount of R1000.00, and not the R1.4 million as claimed on the screenshot posted on social media.
