The Nedbank International Polo is set to thrill Johannesburg in an unrivalled sporting experience

The International Polo, known as the most prestigious equestrian fixture on the annual sporting and social calendar, is ready to excite the polo community on 15 September 2018 at the Inanda Polo Club in Sandton.

The South African Polo Association is immensely honoured and proud to have Nedbank as the title sponsor. As the premium brand sponsor, this new partnership is set to create an enviable event that will elevate South Africa’s social and sporting calendar. The Nedbank International Polo brings many firsts to the polo fraternity. This will be the very first time it is hosted on a Saturday at the exclusive Inanda Polo Club, situated in the heart of Sandton. Inanda’s spectacular grounds offers an oasis for the day’s events. With an illustrious history, the International Polo is the prime opportunity for guests to experience a game of high intensity, sophistication and effortless charm whilst learning more about Polo through an enthralling experience on the social scene.

“We are very excited to partner with the SA Polo Association as we continue to develop relationships with stakeholders that speak to the broader Nedbank community. Polo is an urban and cosmopolitan lifestyle experience and we believe it aligns well with the Nedbank brand. As an established highlight on the South African social calendar, The International Polo has proven itself as a sophisticated event that we believe is the perfect partnership and we look forward to building this brand together,” says Ciko Thomas, Group Managing Executive for Retail and Business Banking at Nedbank.
Enthusiasts will witness some of the most skillful polo players in a highly anticipated international polo match. Team South Africa will get the ball rolling against three-time winner, Australia – who have previously played against South Africa dating back to 1975. The day promises a hotly contested sporting rivalry, a fast-paced and energetic junior exhibition match is also expected to keep spectators unreservedly elated.

President of the SA Polo Association, Mr. Mark Davies remarked: “It may sound as though it’s stating the obvious to say the match will be close, but when teams both consist of evenly-matched players it makes for a far better contest with frequent passing and a more open style of play. Spectators and enthusiasts are in for a great contest this year.”

To resonate with the heritage and magnificent offering that is the game of polo – understated elegance, congenial hospitality and scintillating entertainment will be at the forefront of the event.  The day promises an exhilarating and action-packed polo match never seen before on African soil and as such, guests are expected to put their best fashion foot forward. In addition, The Association have partnered with Heineken who are no strangers to the game of polo.
VIP guests will enjoy exclusive lounges, creating the perfect setting to immerse into the world of thoroughbreds and delighting in match contests. The atmosphere promises to be nothing short of a luxurious and spectacular day - making it the only place to be.
