Call For Entries: Young Fashion Designer Competition

DURBAN - Calling all up-and-coming fashion designers, fashion students, and people in the fashion industry!

Think you've got what it takes to stitch together a winning dress design in 120 minutes? Gear up to thread the needle with The Workshop.

The Workshop, in association with the Durban Fashion Fair, is proud to provide young designers with a platform to further their career.

In addition to the platform being a space on which young designers can showcase their talents, it is also a space that will allow them to develop entrepreneurial skills in order to combat the ongoing issue of unemployment in the country.

Contestants will be exposed to the cream of the crop in the fashion industry via The Workshop's judging panel, which includes Durban-based designer Zama Mathe, founder of Zarth Designs, Derrick Mhlongo, founder of iidoni Models as well as Sindi Shangase, the Business Support, Tourism & Markets Unit Programme Manager, who spearheads DFF.

The Durban Fashion Fair’s involvement will be intended to train enterprising young designers in all aspects of the fashion business and provide expert support for the contestants.

ENTRY DETAILS:

1. Submit your entry (containing your best work) at the Info Desk, between 9 am and 5 pm, Monday to Saturday – or between 10 am and 4 pm on Sundays.

2. Compete in the 120-minute 'live garment design challenge' in-centre on Saturday, September 8th

3. Entries are now open, and close on Friday, August 24th

Applicants are encouraged to attend a fashion workshop on Thursday, August 16th at 3pm (sharp) at the Workshop Shopping Centre, where applicants will be mentored by experts in the field and will acquire more information about the competition.

The shopping centre is excited to be aligned with a community-upliftment project, and looks forward to making a difference in the long run – helping young people start their own businesses within the fashion industry and make big waves in the fashion world.
