RiSA: Rest in peace Johnny Mekoa

The Recording Industry of South Africa  (RiSA) sends condolences to the family, relatives, friends and colleagues of the late jazz maestro Johnny Mekoa.

This trumpet giant passed away on Monday after a short illness and his death leaves the music industry poorer. His wisdom and knowledge of the music business will be missed.

RiSA CEO Advocate Nhlanhla Sibisi  eulogised Mekoa: “Bra Johnny was one of our highly cherished and respected grandfathers of local music. He was a great teacher and a supporter of young talent.

"His legacy will never be forgotten all thanks to the music academy he founded in the East Rand. He gave us many music gems who will ensure that his name is never forgotten. We salute you, our icon.”
