Comedy ‘Love By Chance’ building bridges between USA and SA

Excitement is building toward the film event of the year when the romantic comedy ‘Love By Chance launches on May 5th in South Africa. 

The comedy is a co-production between South African filmmakers, Dumi Gumbi and Cati Weinek, and US based director and producer Samad DavisUS stars jetting into local shores for the premiere of the SA and US co-production, ‘Love By Chance’. 


These will include celebrity Terri J. Vaughn who starred in Tyler Perry’s Meet the Browns and appearing now on Oprah Winfrey’s new drama series, Greenleaf. Other stars jetting in from the USA will include Desi Banks, who has over 1 million social media followers, and Jael Roberson who starred in films like “Christmas Swap” and “Come Back Dad”. 

These stars will  join forces with South Africans stars Atandwa Kani, best known for his role  playing the younger Nelson Mandela in “The Long Walk To Freedom”, Altovise Lawrence, Winner of Top ActorSA, Denise Zimba from Generations and Nicholas Nkuna, who played in audience favourite Skeem Saam.

Love By Chance’ is about two aspiring actors from South Africa (Altovise Lawrence and Atandwa Kani) who meet by chancein Atlantaexperiencing the  everyday struggle of auditioning, dealing with daily rejection, self-doubt, financial hardship, crazy friends and a mad dating scene, putting the chance at love on the rocks…


Producer Dumi Gumbi, who also released top grossing ‘ Mrs Right Guy’ last year, as well as the acclaimed ‘Dora’s Peace’ believes this will break ground in building stronger ties between South Africans and Americans, “ We need to work closer with US talent in order to gain a foothold back in the USA, so naturally we are excited to be hosting some of these stars here!”


The film will open on 05 May 2017 at Ster-Kinekor cinemas. In South Africa, it will be distributed by Indigenous Film Distribution.
