South African Hip Hop is alive and well

Playground Productions release two singles from SA’s newest hip hop stars
There is no better time for South African rappers than now. With more stations playing their singles, more festivals opening their arms to an ever growing genre, Hip Hop in SA is truly alive and kicking.
Playground Productions (PGP) is a new name in the hip hop scene, but that doesn’t mean that they are a label to be taken lightly. Since their launch in 2015, the label has released singles for Kashis King and Astryd Brown, Nigeria’s Mr Incredible, M.I, Kenya’s Victoria Kimani and the African Queen of Rap, Nadia Nakai.

In August, Playground Productions will release 2 new singles, the first coming from Yung Swiss, who is no stranger to the scene, launching his career with his debut single with rap sensation, Reason. The single ‘I Love It’ launched on YFM and was quickly picked up by 5fm and the debut video made the rounds on MTV Base.
Following that, Yung Swiss, released ‘David Genaro’ in tribute to actor, Jamie Bartlett who started in Rhythm City. This single features guest artists DJ Speedsta, Reason and Ginger Trill.
Now, in August, the new single from 22 year old, Yung Swiss, launches to SA. F.U.T.C (F** Up The Crib)is a hard hitting hip hop single that saw FUTC trending on social media through SA on launch.

The second artist, Ricky Tyler, combines Hip Hop and R&B to produce his signature smooth rap style. While still in high school in Johannesburg, Ricky was selected to perform in New York as part of the PLITZ NY Fashion Week, which exposed him to musicians and producers who helped shaped the young artist.
Back in South Africa, Ricky Tyler, released his debut single in 2013 - Ain’t Nobody which was followed by Remember - both in his signature style of melodic trap with smooth lyrics.
Ricky Tyler’s third single, Swerve, followed in his previous tracks success, mixing his signature sounds into a single that has already blown away his fans. Now launching to his fans, Swerve - The Remix.
Swerve - The Remix now features Family Tree artist Tshego who you will remember from guesting on Cassper Nyovest’s track Cold Hearted.
Expect to hear both singles on radio stations across South Africa. With video’s launching shortly, TV stations across the continent will be next.
