It was a sad day in Cape Town last night when Bafana Bafana were knocked out of the African Nation's Championship following a 3 - 1 defeat to Nigeria.
The hosts needed at least a draw to advance to the quarter finals, but careless defending and missed opportunities ensured the Super Eagles would sail through to the knock-out stages with relative ease.
Christantus Ejike opened the scoring in the 22nd minute for Nigeria, before Ifeanyi Ede scored the second from the penalty spot just 9 mins later. Nigeria sat comfortably at 2 - 0 going into half-time before adding a third through Ejike in the 64th minute.
Bernard Parker pulled one back from the penalty spot in the 80th minute, although the hosts rallied till the end, it was a case of too little too late as South Africa were knocked out in the group stages.
“We indeed have a crisis of monumental proportions and this tournament has proved that. The mediocrity we saw yesterday is disgraceful. Last night, we saw a bunch of losers who conceded two useless goals. We must never wake up to this situation ever again,” said Mbalula.
