The Daily Sun reported that Security officers held Maggie Benedict in their offices at Cresta Mall in Randburg, Joburg, until cops arrived and questioned her.
A case of theft was opened at the nearby Linden Police Station.
Sources said the famous actress, who plays the role of Akhona on Mzansi’s leading soapie, allegedly stole a small packet of Panados (125g).
It’s not yet clear how she was caught.
Maggie was born in Pretoria and studied music, dance and theatre at Pretoria Tech (Tshwane University of Technology).
She has appeared in productions like Showboat and Goldilocks and The Three Bears at the South African State Theatre in Tshwane.
Maggie also works as an ambassador for the Walt Disney Company.
On TV, she has appeared on Snitch, Binneland, The Mating Game and 7de Laan. She was also a presenter on the daytime show Lifestyle.
The shop manager refused to comment before a case had been opened. SAPS spokeswoman Sergeant Obakeng Mabaso confirmed that a 32-year-old woman was arrested and a case of shoplifting has been opened. She will appear at the Randburg Magistrates Court.
