ZONKE TO WARM UP THE WALTER SISULU BOTANICAL GARDENS!

Songbird to kick off the Old Mutual Music in the Gardens Johannesburg series!

Celebrated multi award winning Afro-soul singer Zonke is set to rock the stage as the Old Mutual Music in the Gardens series rocks the Walter Sisulu Botanical Gardens on Sunday, 30 June.

After a thrilling 2012 season which delivered the absolute best in South African Music, the 2013 season raises the bar even higher. A host of hot new acts supported by rising stars across a number of musical genre’s from rock and pop to house and jazz will perform in the gardens this year including Prime Circle, MiCasa and Zakes Bantwini.

Zonke rose to fame with the group Culture Clan, which consisted of two friends from the Eastern Cape.  Culture Clan toured around the world and even went on to scoop a Metro FM Award for the Best R&B song in 2004 as well as the Channel O - Best Video Award in 2005.

Zonke is also a lyricist who has worked on Loyiso’s Wine, Women and Song album as well as on TK’s Black Butterfly CD. Unbeknownst to many, Zonke wrote the famous song “Live my Life”, which put Winnie Khumalo on the map.

“We are so excited to bring back the Music in the Gardens series for 2013. And, to open it with the talented Zonke is even more special. We are confident that this will be a memorable experience for everyone who will attend”, said Bandile Mngoma, Old Mutual Sponsorship Manager.

The OLD MUTUAL MUSIC IN THE GARDENS SERIES performance takes place amidst the natural beauty of the botanical gardens and fans are encouraged to come early, bring picnic chairs and blankets and spend the day in natural splendour. There is a restaurant in the gardens and there is a supervised children’s area.

The Walter Sisulu Botanical Gardens will also have two displays at the concert in celebration of the International Day of Biodiversity. The displays will include a dome representing mother earth and a Fuss ball ground for kids entertainment.
