Something to be proud about has hit the Dark Continent
(Africa), it is Afribiz Charts. It is the first official billboard to showcase
African artists and recognize their full potential in music/show-biz.
The company was established in 2010 by Mr. Bantu “Ntukza”
Hanabe of Teargas. Their prime and vital reason to venture in an online
business of this nature was due to the many of African artists who do not have
an international chart where they can compete at a higher level. Hanabe says, “African
artists have a great potential, yet not the whole of the African population is
aware of it and their music,” Continued Hanabe, “And we believe strongly that
our online music chart is going to bridge that gap.”
“We are proud to be
the first ever billboard chart to hit Africa and are aware of the
responsibility we have in front of us, we are more than ready to take on the
challenge…” As quoted at Afribiz Charts.
They saw that music on the African continent needs a
platform such as theirs, to align all its audiences under one platform; they
also believe that this will give the artists a marketing opportunity that has
more volume. They pride themselves with this wholesome initiative because their
fellow African musicians are racing for the top spot and to have a song that
can be given a number one title in the continent.
Their massively believe that this pushes musicians to
deliver their best, especially those who are still up and coming artists who
wish to become part of the show-biz in the future. They fully agree that modern
day African music is fast becoming popular amongst international arenas of
entertainment, however they say this is due to hard work which has been seen
coming from DSTV channels on our continent.
How Charts are determined?
Every song that reaches their charts goes under a certain
criterion, which is radio and TV airplay, record sales, radio and TV Charts, YouTube
views, electronic and print media appearances, artist(s) must reside in the continent
of Africa, Artists with albums not older than a year, artist with albums,
mix-tapes, singles and artists who will meet the high standards of quality,
e.g. Videos, Album packaging (Sleeves) etc…
