The Proteas (South Africa) are back into their winning ways.
The Proteas batted first after losing the toss and posted 170 for 6 in their
allotted 20 overs. JP Duminy was the day
saver with his superb 86 not out of just 43 balls, Hashim Amla made 41 of 40.
Before Dale Steyn bowled magnificently to restrict New Zealand 168 for 8. South
Africa got their first victory of the tournament.
Steyn had just 7 runs to defend into
the last over and New Zealand could only score 5 as ‘steyn remover’ proves too
much for them. Steyn finished with figures of 4 for 17 in 4 overs. A night
mare of a game for Morne Morkel who conceded 50 runs in just 3 overs at a run
rate of 16.66, very poor.
JP Duminy was named Man of the Match for
his superb nock when the Proteas were under pressure, death and barred to some.
Next for the Proteas is Netherlands on Thursday-with all due respect to our
opponents, but it a match you expect South Africa to win.
This was a much needed win for the proteas
and now we are off and running. But our captain Faf du Plessis need to learn
quickly on his bowling changes, some of his decisions today nearly cost the
Proteas. He bowled a poor Morne Morkel a penultimate over while he was
struggling, a decision which left Dale Steyn to defend only 7 in the last over,
it could have gone either way after that.
Until Thursday for now we can celebrate,
thanks to dale Steyn and JP Duminy, as the Proteas are flying high- finally! South
Africa is still to play England after the Netherlands on Thursday.
