Catch President Robert Mugabe on People Of The South this Sunday!

Robert Gabriel Mugabe is Zimbabwe’s long-standing president who has led the country for over thirty years. He qualified as a secondary school teacher and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English and History from the University of Fort Hare before teaching in both northern and southern Rhodesian high schools.

Mugabe was heavily influenced by Ghana’s independence in 1959 and returned to his home country after a visit there intent on the liberation of his people and land from the governing colonialists. His political involvement with ZANU led to his incarceration for ten years, a time during which he and his Ghanaian wife Sally lost their three-year old son.

Mugabe was released and sent into exile to neighbouring Mozambique from where he and his party, ZANU, would fight during Rhodesia’s guerilla war; a bush war that ended with the Lancaster House Agreement that led to the birth of Zimbabwe and the demise of Ian Smith and his whites-only government.

The BRAVE Mbuli's son calls Kuli Roberts a "Worthless Peasant"!

RESPECT! The tweets from Sithe Mbuli were uncalled for and I am surprised why did Savita allow such stupidity to take place?

Reports went viral that  Vuyo Mbuli's estranged wife has accused TV and radio presenter Kuli Roberts of being among 18 women her husband committed adultery with during their marriage.

What kind of a mourning woman who does this? See why I am not surprised? I wonder if Bra Vuyo was going to allow this to happen?

Kuli is accused of dating MR Mbuli, so what? Sis' Savita it starts with you and the children will follow... How can you let Sithe send such Tweets to an elder? Not being judgmental  but what does this say about you as a mother to a 13 year old?

Nigerian sax man Olufemi to perform live at The SA State Theatre!

One of Nigeria’s sons Olufemi will be unleashing the Afro-beat sounds that made his name in the South African music scene. He will be performing at the Rendezvous Theatre within The SA State Theatre complex on Friday 31st May 2013. The show starts at 20:00 and ends at 23:00

OLUFEMI is the new face of the African Renaissance. Combining Afro-beat and jazz, gospel and blues, West African highlife with a nostalgic Sophiatown flavour, his music is a rich blend of deep and sultry jazz and contemporary groove. His music is urban and urbane. His life’s journey - a story of migration to the South - resonates in his music, which creates a conscious dialogue between West African and South African sounds. This musical fusion demonstrates the path to a new and culturally integrated Africa in which a common heritage is renewed and reshaped to meet the needs of today's world.

A better view of the open letter to Unathi Msengana of Metro FM!

Namhla is not wrong to express her personal anger but judging Unathi is the problem here - I never listened to their show but I once visited them in studio for a couples of images (work) and the way they interact you would swear they are rude to each other too; but it's just the witty part of them being together and if someone does not understand must seek that part before picking up a silly red pen.

Dear Unathi

I trust you are well on this chilly Johannesburg morning.
After much hesitation, but with a lot of consideration, I have decided to pen you this open letter. Do not take anything written here as a personal attack on your overall character. I do not know you in a personal capacity; therefore all views expressed here onwards are solely based on you as a Metro FM morning show co-host.

It was so unprofessional of Randall to address Penny like a piece of trash from Alex Township!

I never thought Penny Lebyane was a human after she picked holes in Bonang Matheba's decision of dropping charges against DJ Euphonik - until recently when I saw an article in one of Mzansi's leading Tabloid newspapers, Sunday Sun.

She went to cry in the paper about how she got a fly-kick boot out of the MTN SAMA 19 as a presenter, sad enough, but now I fully comprehend she's a human too and does not need to be treated like trash by Randall Abrahams.

Dear "D-Headed" Randall

I am well and I trust this finds you well too because I am going to send you the link @MTNSAMA!

It was so unprofessional of you to address Penny (MTN SAMA 19) like a piece of trash from Alex Township, you need to understand that you're NOT the God of the industry and the sooner you understand that, well, you know that people have emotions and that must be respected!

Vusi Mahlasela - Jazz Artist
Johannesburg -  For a long time JAZZ musicians have not been given proper recognition for their contribution to the South African music sound and their role in fighting apartheid. These are the musicians that kept the nation united and still unite the society even today.

JAZZ music is the greatest art form in South Africa and has greater influence in society and it’s a fact that most music comes from the genre. Furthermore, jazz events often attract a lot of music lovers in the country, but jazz practitioners get little in way of appreciation for their sweat and their sales are low.

Charlie thought his diary was going to be a secret!

Charlie Mpogeng, better known as Charlie, hails from Dobsonville ext 2 in Soweto. Schooling at Horizon View Primary School in his junior years, followed by Florida Park High School where he matriculated. When heading for college, at tertiary level it became a challenge for Charlie to complete his course as both his parents were not working at that time, therefore they could not afford tuition fees at Boston Media house in Johannesburg.

Charlie is on of the artists that prides themselves with their craft and he's a force to be reckoned with, having shared the stage with the likes of Khuli Chana (MTN SAMA Album of the year winner), Pro, and Mi Casa.

The young Muso told GoXtra News that he wanted to keep his music in his diary, fortunately his manager saw the talent and gave him thumbs up. "I just documented my feelings down and that was about it." said Charlie.

Johannesburg - Fassie was born in Langa, Cape Town, as the youngest of nine children. She was named after the American singer Brenda Lee. Her father died when she was two, and with the help of her mother, a pianist, she started earning money by singing for tourists.

Fassie first joined the group Joy and later became the lead singer for a township music group called Brenda and the Big Dudes. She had a son, Bongani, in 1985 by a fellow Big Dudes musician. Listeners unhappy about Tina's horrific laughter on Radio!

EVER-SINCE ACTRESS Tina Jaxa joined SABC’s uMhlobo Wenene FM breakfast show – the one they call iBreakfast Eyondlayo “Evimbayo” Ekuseni, or “BEE”.

But not everyone is thrilled by her performance on the airwaves, alongside former Kaizer Chiefs public relations officer, Putco Mafani, who got the bullet from victorious Amakhosi in 2005.

Listeners have been complaining to the station and on social networks. One of them wrote:
Personally to me she’s stale and she’s just another Mgqomeni of the airwaves who woke up from the dead!

Another listener said: “Umhlobo Wenene lost its magic and creativity by using household names like Putco – and Tina just laughs ridiculously at nothing.”

BET Awards: "I am more humble than yesterday..." says Donald!

South African hit-maker  Donald Moatshe!
News you need to know: Twitter went buzzing on Tuesday and all the congratulations poured from both artists and fans!

Although it came as a HUGE SHOCK that Donald Moatshe did not see the game at the MTN SAMA 19 this year, yet he's nominated at the BET Awards with Toya Delazy...

We saw the unfairness of the
MTN SAMA  for not honoring deserving talent in South Africa and this should embarrass them for closing doors for independent artists...

Donald and Toya Delazy have raised the bar of Mzansi music to an international level and people or rather bodies who can spot talent and award it fairly have noticed that, from the Metro FM Music Awards and now, BET Awards.

10 Things that the MTN SAMA can learn from the Metro FM Music Awards!

Take it from @TheRealMakisto and @BuchuleB - a middle finger to the MTN SAMA 19!

Here's our list of few things that The MTN SAMAS can learn from the Metro FM Awards!

1. Ensure the media is well taken care of. They don't have time to worry about food and drinks, they want to get a story and great pictures because Metro FM does this very well!

2. Make sure the PR companies, like Crush PR treat members of the media equally! The companies you hire!

3. Test the technicalities before the actual ceremony. The technical glitches were a huge turn off. Metros know how to do this better...

4. Make sure the securities and staff are well informed about the proceedings. Take all hired companies to a work-shop to get to know each other.

Play 60%-80% National Music on all South African Radio and all MultiMedia platforms!

Khuli Chana.
  • Guys let's help grow our music industry because the fact that local radio stations don't give too much airplay to our local artists is painful and does not help to master growth within the industry! Down with more international content... Let's support local content. Please sign the petition and share from the right-hand side of our site or the links below!

  • This will also help more artists to be like Khuli Chana (won best album of the year at the MTN SAMA 19), Toya Delazy, Donald Moatshe and many more to win awards and gain more recognition...

Music Video of the day - Your Joy by Donald Moatshe!

Music video of the day is Donald Mr "I Deserve" himself song - Your Joy. He's a very unassuming and cool character who always produces a mammoth smile and laughter when around people. Donald is currently full of activity with his second album Train of Love that is available in stores nation-wide. His first album was titled "Just Donald."

Snippets from the MTN SAMA 19: Despite the fact that we were hungry!

He's such a KING! Donald at the MTN SAMA 19
Sun City Superbowl, North West was the place to be at the Weekend! Mzansi’s artists have wonderful talent  that is now reaching international standards equally and believe me if you missed the MTN SAMA 19, better start putting some savings away for next year.

And Kelly Khumalo made sure that she shows the audience that despite her fall and being reported as a recovering drug addict, she’s back!

Known for her hot single Qinisela, Kelly was transported to the stage like a Queen and performed very well. Among Kelly were the likes of, Khuli Chana who set the stage on fire, Lira, DR Malinga, DJ Vetkoek vs Mahoota, DJ Zinhle and Donald wowed everyone, though he was not the man of the moment at SAMA 19!

I watch Generations because I have no kids to keep me busy by changing Diapers!

Please take retirement and don't take Generations with!

Open letter to Bab’ Mfundi Vundla

Dear Respected one,

I hope that you see this letter,

Allow me to congratulate you for such a TV soap that was once brilliant! You are a great creator in Africa and I respect that but let's get real now...

I do not by any objective want to sound like an ill-informed person, but I am struggling to comprehend why did Generations not win any awards at the South African Film and Television Awards (SAFTAS)? I mean really now? With further than 6 - 7 Million viewers? I say no! You've lost your creative juices, don’t you think it’s time to give upcoming filmmakers a chance to take the soap to other heights with their fresh ideas, not saying yours are stale but they need some magic touch. No one is going to take Generations away from you, so relax.

This week on Afro Café look forward to Khaya & Bongani!

Host: Stoan Seate.

This week, Afro Café welcomes Bongani from the group we all love dearly, Malaika. He brings us captivating and electrifying performances from his first solo project leaving our audience begging for more.

Alongside him is the charming South African idol and Metro FM Award winner, Khaya Mthethwa who also mesmerizes us with his combination of ghetto lingo and memorable stage performances.

They both take the time to delve into their personal stories which inspired their music. We sprinkle a bit of music from the young award-winning Berita, Ntando and a surprise song from Bongani, leaving you longing for your loved one.

Here's a Hello and Thank you from our Founder & Editor!

Setting the record straight - GoXtra News will grow "how" news are gathered in South Africa and we'll make sure we give a full analysis to any story we publish... The public needs a change of attitude towards the media.

Chalk Board and Oil do not Mix as Generations' Khethiwe dumps her cameraman husband!

He'll be strong and hopefully God will deal with Khethiwe!

It’s tough and it’s the survival of the fittest – just like on TV she’s rich, own part of a block of flats and now she wants to be associated with a prominent Kwa-Zulu Natal Politician! That’s Khethiwe on Mzansi’s popular soapie, Generations.

Sunday Sun reported that Winnie Modise (Khethiwe) has dumped her cameraman husband and set her sights higher, reportedly on a prominent KZN Politician! Mhmmmmmm… Wonder who’s the Politician and now she recently launched KZN Soapie Awards, begs the question – was that Polician not involved in her getting some deals?

According to the Sunday Sun Khethiwe has moved out of the Roodepoort home she shared with Thabo Modise, who works for the national broadcaster as a camera operator.

This reminds me of a book I used to read whereby a petrol attendant took his girlfriend to get qualified as a teacher and guess what? She got her Diploma and dumped him – “Chalk board and oil do not mix.”

Were the AUTHORITIES informed about this?

Welcome another Gupta case, I assume it is! At the Blitz Patrolie premiere time the Mzansi comedians arrived with a Johannesburg City Metro Police vehicle, well, now let's question this deed! Was it to make a statement as the Gupta family did? That we may also use state resources? Were the people on high ranks informed about this?

Recall, Professor arrived at the Metro FM awards in Durban wearing police uniform and he got arrested! So now what do we do with David Kau, Kagiso and the rest? Did they get permission or they paid the always desperate for "change" Metro cops?

Knowing that Police vehicles are booked and the driver must make authorities aware about passengers  so did that happen? What if an accident happened? Who was going to claim what?

We need answers? Forget about the Gupta family now and look at this!

"Music Is Love" with the Great Unathi Msengana at the Lyric Theatre Tomorrow!

Metro FM’S Unathi Msengana returns to the Lyric Theatre with her brand new concert, “Music is Love”, for one night only tomorrow.

Singer, songwriter, Idols judge and radio host, Unathi recently released her third studio album “With Love”, hot on the heels of her sophomore album “In Honour” which received Gold Status.

Audiences at the Lyric Theatre loved her when she last graced the stage in 2010, so much so that the demand has been such to bring her back to this stage. With a band of 9, and a first of its kind in the form of an all-female vocal collaboration on stage, Unathi pledges to provide her fans with a breathtaking show not to be missed.

Unathi will thrill patrons with instantly recognizable hits such as We Thembisile, A Mother’s Love, Kwa Nolali, Sana Lwam, amongst many others, alongside some brand new tracks, providing an evening full of wonderful surprises.

Sad: A girl that shredded her dreams of becoming a Doctor by a choice!

She continues, “I did not sleep with some of these men but most of them I did and I never used any protection because they refused it and I did not mind.”
And on my mind I was like probably some of them infected you with the ugliest diseases they had too… And now it was beginning to be late, so I told her I am about to leave!
“Please Bhuti (Brother) help me I don’t have a place to stay at, so do you mind if I stayed at your place for a few days because I am going home next week…”
My eyes just went wild and my heart beat was at an athlete’s level of beating but I managed to calm myself down… And told her that there’s no problem we’ll arrange something.
